The story of Beatriz Millàn

In 2020 I came to Switzerland as a refugee from Colombia. Without my family, but with a big dream in the heart and hope of a new life in mind, I found myself in a foreign country alone, full of challenges. I not only had to learn a new language and find my way around in this new culture, but also find a way to stand on my own feet.

Just a year later, in December 2021, opened for me KoKoTé A door that fundamentally changed my life. There I not only found a job, but a real chance. Through practice -oriented training as a textile practitioner, I got the opportunity to develop my skills and grow in a supportive community. In addition to the technical knowledge, I learned how significant teamwork, discipline and flexibility are - properties that help me to prove me professionally and to feel personally at home in Switzerland.

The handicrafts in particular fill me with joy and pride every day. It is not just work, but a passion that drives me and gives me strength again and again. In the meantime, I even learn English in order to be able to look after international customers in our shop in Zurich even better. And I am lucky enough to pass on my knowledge in textile and materials science to our three new learners- one aspect of my work that is really dear to me.

KoKoTé gives me the opportunity to develop myself professionally and to work in an environment that gives me security and stability. I have achieved my goal of being financially independent and having a permanent job. Even if the longing for my family in Colombia is great, I feel that I am on the right track to build a new, stable life here. The activity for KoKoTé Not only gave me a professional perspective - she opened a door into a hopeful future.
