Our Craft

Schweizer Nähhandwerk: Liebe zum Detail und Präzision

For us, craftsmanship means consciously designing every detail. From the selection of materials and the finishing of the seams to the functional elements of our products – everything is carefully checked and implemented with the highest precision. This is how we create products that are not only beautiful but also robust and durable.

CARSTEN JÖRGENSEN

Since 2018, Carsten Jörgensen has been developing KoKoTé products for us – with a keen sense for timeless design, functionality, and human needs. He is one of the defining figures in Scandinavian product design. After studying at the Kunsthandværkerskolen in Copenhagen, he was largely responsible for the design of the manufacturer Bodum for over three decades, where he headed the design department and developed numerous iconic products. His works have received international awards and are represented in renowned museums worldwide. Carsten's design stands for clarity, functionality, and a timeless expression – beyond fleeting trends. Today, he lives in Lucerne and continues to dedicate himself to product design as well as writing about art, design, and architecture.

OUR MATERIALS

Our planet's resources are valuable, which is why KoKoTé uses eco-friendly materials in its production.

KoKoTé actively pursues development and solution approaches to gradually move towards circularity, cradle-to-cradle, and zero-waste in the future. We currently primarily use ECONYL® for our products, which, according to our research, is the most sustainable fabric for now in terms of CO2 balance, recycling, microplastics, and water consumption.

ECONYL®

ECONYL® is a recycled nylon (polyamide) made from waste materials such as fishing nets or carpet scraps. The material boasts high durability and versatility – ideal for long-lasting products. Recycling reduces the need for new fossil raw materials and significantly lowers CO₂ emissions compared to conventional nylon production. At the same time, the material's quality is maintained even after several recycling cycles. Despite its synthetic origin, ECONYL® is a more responsible choice: the supply chain is transparent, and the special fiber structure reduces the release of microplastics. For KoKoTé, ECONYL® is therefore a sustainable functional material that combines quality, durability, and environmental awareness.

Bonded Leather

Bonded leather is an innovative material that comes particularly close to genuine leather in appearance and feel. It consists of over 90% recycled leather scraps, which are processed with natural latex into a high-quality, durable material. By recycling production waste, the CO₂ footprint is significantly better than that of conventional leather. At the same time, bonded leather impresses with its robustness, water repellency, and easy care. For KoKoTé, bonded leather is a sustainable alternative that combines design, quality, and responsible use of resources.

Bonded leather is exclusively processed by KoKoTé in Switzerland.

Webbing, buckles & co.

Our distinctive red-black or black webbing is woven in Switzerland. We use a cotton and a polypropylene version of it. The cotton is finished in Portugal, the polypropylene is produced in Europe. The cords are made of polypropylene, which comes from European production. The plastic elements used by KoKoTé for the Globi products, such as buckles, single adjusters and double adjusters, as well as press studs, consist of over 85% recycled plastic.
